I aspire to take photos that are genuine. The work that I am most proud of captures the subject in a real, authentic way. I’ve found the most inspiration from the mundane things in my life.
I’ve been an artistic person since birth. It’s always been hard for me to stick to just one thing. I can say that I’ve picked up most creative hobbies in my lifetime. My grandma taught me how to sew, and I’ve enjoyed drawing for as long as I can remember. My parents put me in music lessons at a young age which led me to pursue guitar. Trying so many things has sometimes made me doubt my abilities. I often think I can’t succeed at everything, and I should just pick one. But no matter what pressure I put on myself, I know my creative urges will continue on. I want to keep growing and experimenting with new mediums, because eventually I won’t be able to anymore.
I started pursuing photography when I joined the yearbook team in 8th grade. From then on I started my business as a photographer, shooting many portraits and events since. My favorite works are the ones I have full creative freedom in. I love experimenting with mixed media and other mediums outside of photography. Throughout my childhood, I didn’t really have a dream job. It wasn’t until I started high school that I realized I wanted to pursue photography as a career. Now, I can’t imagine doing anything other than art full-time.
In May of 2024, I started a video magazine called Callused. Music has been such an important part of my life. I’ve been inspired by so many artists such as Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell, and Alex G. Watching interviews and live footage of different bands has always been something I enjoy. After seeing so many of those MTV interviews, I started getting this urge to do something similar. We’re lucky in Denver that the music scene is full of so many young and talented musicians. The people that have pushed me to be a better musician are the ones that supported me in starting this magazine. Through the interviews, I get to ask so many talented people why they do what they do. Most of us pursue art for similar reasons.
